Localizing a heritage French dermo-skincare brand for Chinese consumers through brand story, naming, visual identity, and packaging guidelines.

The brand

ROC Skincare is a French skincare brand built on scientifically proven, dermatologist-tested products that target multiple skin concerns with active ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. The brand is a long-standing reference in anti-aging, and runs a cruelty-free range.

The challenge

As a branding agency, we were tasked with localizing ROC Skincare for the Chinese market. The mandate was broad. It covered adapting the brand story, experience, visual identity, logo, and naming, as well as establishing photography, video, and web design guidelines. ROC needed a presence in China that felt genuinely French without feeling foreign, and genuinely local without drifting from the global brand.

Our approach

Our approach leaned on a deep understanding of both French elegance and Chinese cultural nuances, so the brand’s core DNA stayed intact while becoming relevant and appealing to the Chinese consumer. We rebuilt each brand layer in sequence: positioning and story first, then naming, then the visual identity system, then packaging and application guidelines. Every decision was tested against a simple question. Would a Chinese consumer understand this as premium, effective, and clinically credible?

Results

The result is a localised ROC Skincare presence in China that holds the brand’s foundational values without losing its French character. ROC’s heritage was paired with tailored elements for the Chinese market, producing a brand story and visual identity built for the health-conscious Chinese consumer. The localisation runs across every brand touchpoint and keeps ROC consistent with its global standards.
