The brand
RQ Pyology is a new high-end dermo-cosmetic brand from Shiseido, created for a market already crowded with established clinical skincare names. China was chosen as the brand’s first global launch market, a signal of how central Chinese consumers have become to premium beauty.
The challenge
Launching a premium dermo-cosmetic brand in China asks for more than a campaign. RQ Pyology needed a full brand foundation: a positioning framework, a distinct visual system, and a voice that could stand credibly next to heritage players. The target was demanding, educated urban women aged 28 to 40 who research ingredients, follow dermatologists online, and prefer substance over marketing hype.
Our approach
The work started with positioning and strategy before any campaign assets. We defined an audience that values ingredient transparency and clinical efficacy, then built a brand identity around that promise. The visual language leans clinical and precise, with restrained typography, laboratory-inspired color, and photography that shows real skin rather than filtered perfection. Packaging, e-commerce templates, and social assets were all aligned so every touchpoint reinforced the science-backed story.
The launch activation layered a coordinated content plan, sampling programs for trial, and a campaign that translated clinical claims into a language consumers could actually feel.
Results
The launch established RQ Pyology in China’s competitive dermo-cosmetic segment. Social engagement came in strong, sampling drove meaningful trial and conversion, and the brand’s scientific credibility held up against established competitors, giving Shiseido a platform to scale the brand to further markets.
